Sabrina began the AE-MSN Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Program at The University of Texas in 2019 after recognizing that many patients with severe psychiatric disorders are undertreated due to a shortage of providers in the community. Sabrina has worked for over a decade as a clinical social worker in crisis intervention, traumatic stress, Critical Incident Stress Management, and psychiatric settings. Sabrina began working at Ascension Seton Shoal Creek Hospital in 2008 and then in Austin’s first Seton Psychiatric Emergency Department in 2014. After graduation, Sabrina hopes to work in the community to decrease the long-term suffering of patients and families whose lives are impacted by severe mental illness. She holds particular interest in reducing health disparities and increasing equity in healthcare. It is Sabrina’s hope that combining a background in social work with the specialized skills of a psychiatric nurse practitioner will be beneficial in providing holistic care to those in need in our community.
