Volunteering with C.D. Doyle
Pharmacy students are able to participate in an interprofessional team made up of medical
students, psychiatric nurse practitioner students, undergraduate students, and an attending
physician to provide care for individuals in underserved populations. At the clinic, pharmacy
students are able to provide point-of-care testing, medication reconciliation, over-the-counter
medication recommendations, and medication counseling to patients. Additionally, they assist in
managing medication inventories, participating in health promotion initiatives, and advocating for
affordable access to medications. While at the clinic, students will have a direct line to a
pharmacy preceptor should any clinical or interprofessional questions arise.
Why volunteer with C.D. Doyle
Volunteering at the C.D. Doyle clinic allows pharmacy students to hone their clinical skills in a
learning environment that is highly rewarding. By volunteering at the clinic, pharmacy students
gain hands-on experience and contribute to the well-being of underserved communities.
Volunteering will also help the student foster a deeper understanding of patient care and
medication management, and will give the student exposure to working collaboratively with an
interprofessional team. These experiences allow students to build connections with patients,
students, and health care providers that will shape their future practice as pharmacists.
